Bushnell TRS-25 is always a great option under $100. I've got one mounted to an AK with an Ultimac gas tube. Gets hotter than hell and keeps working.

I have a Barska Reddot on my AR9 and a TruGlow on my Glock 17, shoot Steel Matches with both and USPSA with my AR9. Countless rds and they are still working. TRS-25 is nice also. I have that one on my 357 lever action.

If cost is the ultimate concern, why no just go with BUIS? You'll have a built in sight system whether using a QD mounted RD sight or not?

Co-witnessed RD/BUIS can be "sighted in" without firing a shot as you move the RD sight on and off. Icing on the cake is a sight system for optic failure.

    A $150 RDS on a $350-$400 gun seems a bit much, that's what I meant.

    Anything sub-$100?

I have a Trijicon TR21 1.25-4 with an ADM quick release mount on one 15-22, an old Trijicon RX01 with a GDI quick release mount on another 15-22, and a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 on a CZ 455 in 22.

Nothing is overkill on a "plinker" if you shoot it enough.

    Under $100. Bushnell TRS-25

Where did you find, who makes a $350 AR9??

I've been piecing it together with parts and gift cards for a while now. That's just a ballpark, it's probably a little more, but not much more.

And thanks for the TRS-25 recs, that looks like it should work just fine.

I just spent $55 bucks a night to park in Chicago so my wife could see a green river, forgive me if I push back at the idea of $150 as "inexpensive." ;)

$55 for a night. The $150 optic will last for years. So a bargain really.

$150 is a lot of money for sure. But still less then 750 rounds of 9mm ammo. The gun and equipment is the cheap part of shooting.
