I have to share this story as it is one of the most unique customer service experiences I've ever had. So here we go...

After taking a carbine class in early December (Revere's Riders), I noticed my Eotech model 517 experiencing reticle fading in the lower 1/3 of my viewing window. A week later I contacted them to begin the warranty process. They agreed to fix it for free. 2 week shop time plus a couple days shipping. Dont send till after new year as they will be shutdown for holidays (good). Sounds stellar...

January 4th, package sent from my post office as 3day priority with a $500 insurance coverage. Expected delivery Jan 7th. Plenty of time as I am attending the RR 2-day class in late Feb. All seems well, for now.

I'm a patient man, but when I tracked the package on the 13th and it hadn't yet arrived, I began to twitch. Called eotech to verify. Everyone forgets to scan a box or 2 in their life. No such delivery. I said woosah and after a disheartening hang up I started to lose hope. Rep Mike K. said to call him back the following Monday (21st) and check one last time ...

Monday Jan 21...starring at the clock waiting for the office to open. Again, no package. Mike K, same representative who certainly remembered me, chuckled and said "good luck dealing with the USPS". My heart sank. He then proceeded to explain that they would send me a new unit at no cost because they value their customers. I'm completely flipped now. Model 517 is now discontinued, 518 is the equivalent replacement. I thank him extensively. Back to happy.

15 min later I get an email from him. They don't have anymore 518's in stock. He'll send me a 558 I instead. But what model is that? After a website check it's the NV compatible model with built in QD mount. $200 MSRP difference. What an upgrade!

Definitely a thumbs up if there ever was one.

Don't get me started on the USPS!

I did a radon test for my house that has to arrive at the testing company within 8 days.

It came with prepaid USPS delivery. Long story short it took the USPS 7 days to get it from Zionsville to Indianapolis.

I have to buy a second test now and am spending additional money sending through a different carrier.

Yes I know this was off topic but I had to vent.....That is awesome to hear about Eotech!!!!

I'm gonna start with a request to locate & return item to me before going after insurance claim. Not holding my breath here.

Eotech support is top notch. Traded for a unit that had issues on Ingo (full faith the trader did not know, really). Eotech pretty much overhauled it to new and shipped back in a week and paid shipping both ways

as long as you have proof of purchase the insurance claim at usps is easy or at least it has been for me. I had a paypal receipt for a guy paid me for a flashlight. usps delivered him an empty box. he took it in on his half and I emailed the receipt. i had a check in my hand two weeks later for 10 dollars more than the receipt.

I think that some bul&#)t my EOTECH is not broken.
So I think EOTECH should send me a free one because you got a new one!

A bit OT.....how you like the Vortex magnifier? Any real difference (other than $$$$) between it and the Eotech version?
I haven't had the opportunity to use the eotech magnifier, but was considering one. The vortex pairs nicely. Clear glass, lines up perfectly. That and the fact I got it from a fellow INGO'er gently used for around a hundred clams sealed the deal. I was in the middle of shopping for one (EO Tech's price was driving me elsewhere), when I saw the ad posted on the forum. I had just went into my LGS and physically handled the vmx-3 2 days prior. Dumb luck.
I was most likely going to buy it anyway. The other brands I looked at gave me the impression of cheaply made.

They lost a package for me once. When I went to collect my "insurance" money I was told it wasn't lost until the 60 day mark.........

So you want something for nothing just because I got one? Sounds suspiciously socialist to me....

Many thanks. May need to seriously consider that route.

For half the price of their brand I'm certainly more than pleased. Vortex has a lifetime warranty as well.

FYI: the shim is for whether or not your optic is setup for absolute cowitness or lower 1/3. ANY Eotech with side mounted buttons and/or a QD mount is automatically 1/3= add shim.
