I was wondering if anyone owned a Gerber Applegate auto and has has the false edge sharpened ?

    Legal?

    Practical?

Where to get it done? I was thinking the guy from YouTube Apostle P

It's legal in Indiana, NOT practical at all but then again the idea of accidentally cutting the **** out of myself when closing the knife does not seem appealing at all. Also double edged knives are a total PITA to sharpen correctly and keep matching apexing bevels. I believe Apostle P could do it but it will be pricey

I swore that at the bottom of the blade there is a area on the false edge that does not need to be sharpened. But your probably right.

I had one of those that I sharpened just the 3/8" of the tip just so back cuts could be executed. That portion is covered when the blade is swung into the handle. It also makes it very stabby!

I have both the large and small Applegate.
After looking at both, I don't think I would sharpen either much more than the 3/8"already mentioned.
When I look at both with the blade closed, I can see that part of the blade sticks out of the grip.
If sharpened, you would definitely feel it.
Also, when closing the blade, I find that I need more leverage as I am closing it.
I really like both. The S30V steel is quite good and the action is robust.
I enjoy carrying the small one when I have to wear dress pants. It conceals well.
Only issue I have with the small is the lock on mine is a bit spongy.
