Nice thing about the .45acp is that there is over 100 years of reloading history. It is pretty hard to find any combnation of powder/bullet that has not been tried and perfected.
A couple of my favorite loads are already listed. I have never found any published load that would not work in a 1911. have fun.

Being new to reloading I opted to take the safe road. My 1911 came with a factory test target complete with load data. 4.8 grain of Bullseye Powder over a 200 grain H&G#68 LSWC, OAL is 1.250". I have tried a couple different H&G#68 clones and they have all worked well. I bought 2500 Silver Creek bullets at the local gun shop and they are very smokey and not casted as consistent as the bullets I ordered from Wilson Combat. They all shoot fine. I have played with the powder a bit and I think 4.9 grain would be just about perfect.

I have shot this load in a Springfield Loaded, SW1911 & Wilson Combat. All of these 1911s ate it up. I will say this is a field load and not a bunny fart target load. It should make USPSA major out of a 5" gun. Overall I think it is an economical do all 1911 load.
