I'm new to this reloading thing and I want to do some .357.
I've loaded .38 spl and .44 special using 700x. I know I need different powder for the .357 and I was thinking I would like to try 2400 but I'm having no luck at all of finding some. What are the other good powders I should be looking for? Thanks

Yup. H110/WW296 for heavy loads but do not reduce loads with H110/WW296. For light to medium loads look at WST/WSF, Red Dot/Green Dot, Bullseye, Accurate No 2, WW 231.

AA#5, AA#7, AA#9, Unique, 4227, Blue Dot if you don't mind the resulting fireballs.
As others have stated, H110/W296 are tough to beat for the stiffest loads, but stick scrupulously to the manuals' recommended loads with it; never go below the starting load.

I would avoid Blue Dot for .357 mag caliber. With lighter bullets (110-125 gr) it will gas cut a forcing cone like you've never seen. Don't ask how I know. I believe that Alliant has warnings about Blue Dot in .357 also.

I have heard the same about Li'l Gun...does not apply if being fired from a rifle/carbine.

IMR 4227 OR LONGSHOT IS THE WAY TO GO

I just found IMR 4227 last night. The Bullet Trap in Roanne. Not got the number handy, sorry. He has 2 pounds, he is open Saturday by appointment and Thursday from 6 to 8. I will find his number and post it ASAP.

All good advice above. I will only add that my new favorite 38/357 loads are with 125gr coated bullets and Autocomp powder. You can get some pretty great velocity with this combination.

I loaded a bunch with Titegroup last year. Pretty boring to shoot out of a rifle. OK out of a handgun(I have Single Action Army's).

Last year I found AA#5 and loaded some finally this year. Much more fun to shoot out of a rifle.

I shot 3 rounds out of a rifle with Lil' Gun. Holy shiiiite! It thumped hard...and did well...but I need bullets made for that and not the plated Xtreme's I'm using.

I use 158 gr plated Xtremes in all my reloading. I've started playing with different powders...but think I may settle in to #5 for it. Unique works well too. I'm just looking for a nice thump when I plink with it. I don't actually hunt. If I was going to hunt I'd be using real bullets and H110 or Lil Gun probably.

Stopped at Inlaws and Outlaws Gun shop in Gas City. They still had 3 pounds of 2400 left on the shelf when I left. Not a bargain price but likely where the new prices will be as powder comes back to the shelf.
