I done the 35 Remington last year with great turn out. Now Im wanting to go to the 45/70 I put together. Looking at going with the hornady 325gr bullets maybe the 250gr mono flex. What powder and how much would you run in a shortened case. Have several lbs of lever evolution but could opt for something different

If you're using a 16" Encore, just put a pistol grip on it and use a full-length round.
I've used my Contender in Super 16 .45-70govt for a few years now.

Been working on a deer legal load for my own 45-70....so..

Use the regular powder charge that you would normally use....just use a heavy(long) enough bullet so that it seats to the normal length.
This CAN be done with a 405g but the bullet is barely in the case, so a 425-450gr bullet is more appropriate.

As for powder charge...12-15gr of unique or a slightly heavier charge of 2400....dont need a lot of velocity to kill deer with a 450gr boolit.

using those hornady jacketed bullets, I wonder how well they will like the jump to the lands...thats going to make the OAL pretty short.

Most guys that reload for 45-70(1.8) are loading heavier bullets to maintain the normal OAL for 45-70.

    God bless
