    Hi all.

I have been shooting for many years and and have come to enjoy shooting the 308 family of cartridges. The only three I haven't shot or owned are the 338 Federal, 260 Remington and 7mm 08 Remington.

I have always been a fan of the 308. A 308 was the second rife I ever owned. It's a Remington 700 in 308, it's a great shooting rifle. I can't see me ever getting rid of it. Everything from vermin to bears have been taken with it. I my self have taken deer with it in Kentucky.

I added a 358 Winchester. I wanted something that would take down about anything that walks in he US. The 358 is a great round. It's with in 100 FPS of the Whelen with the 200 gr bullets and 200 FPS with the 250 gr bullets. The recoil isn't bad. It's about the same as the 308 with heavy bullets. The only thing I wouldn't hunt with it is a Polar bear.

The 243 Winchester has been a lot of fun to shoot. It has very little recoil and is very accurate. I had two rifles in that caliber and just sold one to my Son. I am looking to replace it with a 260 Remington. I don't need two 243 Winchesters. I don't know if I really need a 260, but I like my Grendel so much that I want to try the 260.

I also shoot the 358 Hoosier because of the Deer hunting laws in Indiana. Well that is how it started out. I now just like the round. It will do everything that the 358 Winchester will do and is very accurate. It will also do it using less powder. Now if one of the big three would load ammo for it. No hope of that. That's to bad because it's a great round. Hell, you can only find 358 Winchester every now and then and it goes for close to $2 a round. I am so glad I reload.

I guess my question would be is what is your favorite family of cartridges and what ones do you shoot.

I own, or have owned, several of the '06 family of cartridges. While they aren't significantly better than the 308 family equivalents, they are usually a little faster, across the board. I have never understood how the action length makes any difference, or barrel length for that matter, but I grew up out West where 270's with 24" barrels were useful in making those 300+ yard shots we were often faced with.

From a handloading perspective, the -08 cartridges are more efficient, but that's never mattered much to me, either. I just prefer the long, Coke-bottle look of the full-length action cases.

I own/have owned multiple cartridges in the WSM, .308, belted magnum, and .404 Jeffery/Ruger magnum families.

.300, .270, .325 WSM plus .243, .358 and .257 WSSM- It is hard to pick a favorite of the three WSM cartridges. I have the most experience with the .270 since it was my first centerfire and have yet to miss an animal I have shot at with it. The .300 WSM is in my opinion the most balanced of the .30 cals with just the right blend of performance and recoil. Lastly, the .325 takes the .300's performance up a notch with a hardly noticeable increase in recoil and is IMO, is one of the two best all around choices for medium heavy game.

.308, 7mm-08, and .243- The .243 wins the favorite of this family easily for me and the only debate is which of the other two is second.

.300 win mag, .338 win mag, and .458 win mag- Oddly enough two of the three rifles I own in this family are semi-autos which probably skews the results a bit. The .458 is definitely my least favorite of this group but probably not for the expected reasons. The .458 is not bad but is definitely the most limited of my big/medium bores. I like the .300 win mag but between it and my .300 WSM, I'm more likely to pick up the WSM(mostly due to rifles) for a hunt. The .338 is the clear winner in this group for me.

.375 Ruger, .416 Ruger, .338 RCM and .26 Nosler- The .375 is definitely the favorite based on sheer versatility but the .416 is not far behind and both are very enjoyable to shoot for dangerous game type cartridges. I don't have much experience with the .338 or .26 yet but like what I have seen so far.

Overall favorite family is virtually impossible to choose for me, I like the WSMs for small/medium bores and the .404 Jeffery/Ruger magnums for medium/big bores.

I love the 38-55 family of cartridges. I have personally shot the 38-55, 30-30, 32 Win. Special and 32-40.

They all are great hunting cartridges and are great lever action calibers.

Long time ago I got a trim die in a swap deal for .25x308.
And never since then seen any thing else on the cartridge.
Seems to me it would have a lot of potential.

The 25 Souper...it's really surprising that there isn't a commercially successful 25 and 27 caliber version of the 308 case.

.25 Souper... yeah, I remember reading about that somewhere somewhen.
With some of the heaviest .25 BTHP's that oughta to reach out pretty well.

I have shot a few 308s and loved it. I just wish the price of AR10's would drop like AR15's have.
I too am amazed that AR 10s have not come down in price like AR 15s. Can it be that manufacturers liked the high prices brought about by the specter of Hildabeast winning the presidency? Hmmmmm!
