Went to our local Meijer store with the wife today. Decided to have a quick look at their ammo section.
I was surprised to find 5 round boxes of Winchester military grade 12 gauge 00 buck.
I hadn't seen any of that since I was in the Army, years ago. I picked up a couple of boxes ($4.97 ea.) to have around for my Winchester 1897 trench gun.

I tried the Winchester 00 buck in my pumper and it groups aren't all that great for the price of the ammo. It was even the shot stabilized ammo with the tiny plastic beads filling the voids. The groups were no better than the cheap wal mart 00 buck. Is that "military grade" stuff have special powers?

There is nothing military grade about that ammo. Winchester uses OD hulls and marks up the price 100% over the regular super X 00 buck ammo. Unfortunately this tactic worked to get you to pay $1.00 per round for average at best ammo. This ammo is not military surplus nor has it even recognized by an Army 89B ammunition specialist. Next time, spend the $1.00 per round on some federal flite control rounds.

This. The flight control buckshot groups really well. Out of my mossburg 500 20" it creates 1 big hole at about 10 yards. Good for me because thats the longest distance i'd have to shoot in my house. I have found 5 round boxes of this online for $3-$3.50/box.

Indeed if you want a devastating long range buckshot I have shot the Federal and Hornady flight control loads.

Out of my Pumper at 25 yards it groups right around 8-10". That is pretty darn tight group.

Patterned some of the buck shot over the weekend. Out to 30 yards, it patterned great out of my 97 trench gun.
Claimed MV is supposed to be 1320 fps. I was seeing closer to 1300 over the chronograph.
For no more than I am going to shoot of this, I am pleased with it, all around.

I just scored a great deal on a case of the Federal Reduced recoil 1145fps. I much prefer the reduced as the 1300-1500 stuff just does not seem necessary.
