Red Dot has always been my go to powder for 12 gauge target loads. I tried it in 9mm but thought it was too dirty. Might give it another try now.

Well, I've got some loading to do.
I'm sitting on enough Red and Green Dot to last me quite some time.

Any idea why they felt the need to "improve" these two powders?
    What about Blue Dot?

    And here's another question.
Will the new powders have new load data, or is it on par with data for the old formula Green/Red Dot?
If different, how will they ensure people understand old and new formula's?

If the data changes drastically, I see many potential problems for the novice loader.

FYI - This is the second time Alliant has reformulated these two powders to be cleaner burning. I sincerely hope the load data doesn't change as that will definitely cause problems. One of the reasons I like Red Dot and Green Dot is because there is tons of data available - literally decades worth - from all kinds of manuals and for all sorts of calibers and component combinations. Just for fun, I still load 12ga trap loads now and then with nitro cards and fiber wads and Red Dot is the powder I use because it's one of the few powders still available from those old days for which data is widely available. I've used Red Dot for just about everything you can imagine and the only other powders that come close to it's versatility are two other old powders - 700-X and Unique. Other very versatile oldie but goodies are 2400, Herco, Blue Dot, and HP-38/Win 231.

I used Red Dot for light pistol loads for many years and I think it would be very difficult to improve its performance. Maybe it was a little dirty but who cares? You got to clean your gun anyway.......
