Hey guys. so this is my 1st thread. ive been wanting to devolpe a good hunting round for deer seaon this year. i have a good 180 gr. xtp that I chrono'd. it came in at 1108 fps ave. with a sd of 6.75 and a es of 16 using 6.0 gr. of tite group. looking around I see most people using 200 gr. xtp's. they also using aa9, long shot and 800x powder. im looking for velocity between 1250 and 1300. so my question is, anybody have a load that they have devolped in a 200 gr. xtp with the velocity im looking for. any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt you'll safely get to those velocities, at least with Accurate #9 which is what I use. I'm sure a 200 gr XTP at 1150 fps would get the job done, assuming reasonable range and shot placement of course.

At max case pressure the top velocity using No. 9 would be 1,170 fps. Using No. 7 at max pressure would be about the same using a 200gr bullet. There would still be room in the case for more powder but being at max pressure your limited. I just think with a 200gr bullet your not going to safely reach the velocity your looking for. Limit the range your looking to shoot out to using pistol and use a rifle for further out.

I have some of Underwood's XTP 180gr. Box says 1200fps. I haven't tested it with a chrony. I think Kevin uses 800x for his 10mm loads. Getting a 200gr to 1250fps would be, well, interesting.....

hey NyleRN. thanks for the response. I saw some old data that long shot was getting close to the 1250... but again that was old data. I think im gonna stick with the 180 gr xtp... it chrono'd great and at 50 - 75 yrds… its accurate as all get out. shooting out of a glock 40 mos. going to order a lone wolf barrel soon for it too.

I have the same pistol too. Pretty darn top heavy but absorbs the recoil very nicely

I've got to ask; what are you shooting this out of? I cannot imagine safely reaching those velocities in anything but a 6" long slide and I would be afraid to give odds on that. As the saying goes - Proceed With Caution.
