    Hey Everyone!

I have a quick question. Can anyone tell me what the price of the Federal bulk packs of .22lr were going for at Walmart in 2008? I didn't start getting interested in firearms until the end of 2008. I remember the 100 rd packs of WWB going for $9.99/box at Walmart. Then demand drove the prices of everything through the roof. I was shopping online and noticed that the price of 9mm has come down so much that I can find it for 100rds/$14.99/box. It is not quite as low as when I first became interested in firearms but getting there.

Last summer I bought a Ruger 10/22. It is my first .22 and as a result I have no idea what prices for .22lr were before the demand went crazy. I have watched .22 prices drop little by little to $0.03/rd. I am wondering how much lower it has to go until it reaches 2008 levels. What were the Federal bulk packs going for back in 2008? Or, are there any other prices/brands you can remember? Any other brands you can remember I'll look up today's prices to get a comparison between the two. I would like to get an idea if the prices are going to drop even more or if they have bottomed out to 2008 levels.

I wouldn't mind picking up a .22 pistol someday so I am trying to figure out when would be a good time to stock up on .22lr to feed both firearms.

    Thanks in advance!

    Bobby

Stay stocked up now. Prices aren't guaranteed to continue to fall. They won't get much cheaper and with the elections coming up again I'm seeing ammo getting pricey and somewhat scarce.
Some states are basically giving the U.S. Govt. the finger and big "F" U and doing what they want.
SCOTUS might be able to limit some stupidity but I say... "Keep your powder dry"

I always buy a little when there is a sale. I have more 22lr that should last 3 lifetimes. I should start stocking up on 7.62x39.

I don’t remember if it was 2008 or, or around, but I was paying $20+tax per 550 federal. Have a few still left. Good ammo. $0.03 / rnd

NOW is a good time. Ain’t going lower, ever.

On the day of the Sandy Hook Elementry shooting, I delivered 2 cases of Federal 510, 5000 rounds of 22lr in LRN for a total of 197.00 each, then things went to he** quickly and prices way up. Those same cases were selling for over 400.00 shortly after that,

i just got back into shooting USPSA this spring after a 12 year "vacation" from competition. USPSA matches led to shooting steel challenge, RSCA and various "outlaw type" steel matches. i picked up a rimfire rifle and pistol to shoot steel, and was dumbfounded by the prices bricks of 22LR were going for.
the last time i'd bought any 22LR, was back around '97 or so, 500 rd's of remington UMC were $2.99 :runaway:

ive sent 6000+ rounds of aguila and federal automatch downrange so far this year.

I recall 100 rds CCI mini-mag boxes for $1.88, that was back in 1980-81. My last box was $9.95 two years ago, but I needed them. I haven’t shot many lately cause I can reload 9s and 38s for about the same price.

I've got a bunch of Mini-Mags in the amber boxes. I'd have to dig them out to be sure but I think I paid $3.95 per hundred. Amber plastic boxes go back quite a ways.
Point Blank has Mini-Mags for $10 a hundred, standard velocity is the same price only it's also available in packs of 50.

I remember paying $3.55 for MiniMags in those amber boxes at KMart in the mid to late '80s. I still have several of this boxes that I refill with bulk ammo the take to the range.

I met my wife in 2001 and we shot a hell of a lot of those Federal bulk 550 packs. I would buy four at a time and head out to her parents place and shoot. I want to say eight or nine bucks a box back then. When it hit the nineteen dollar mark I sold my .22's. It isn't worth it for me. Not to mention poor quality and filthy. Ammo wasn't the same. Used to shoot a ton of 9mm and .357 mag.......I would buy the entire store shelf couple times a week. Stuff was cheap and we had a lot of fun. Shot a boat load of 8mm out of a fifty dollar mauser was paying $7.00 for 70 round bandolier.

Prices jumping forced me into hand loading too. Back then I had 14 plus different calibers(hand loading for seven). I sold everything off and consolidated recently. Four calibers now and load for two. Shoot a lot less these days. Buy and shelf as much as I can if I want to stay in the hobby.

I think it was 2008 or 2009, my son bought federal 550 rnd bulk packs at Rural King Black Friday sale for $9. At RK in years prior to 2009, I would regularly buy 50 rnds of RP, Fed or WW for 84c

Did the car you drove to the store to buy the $.25/box Super X have an AM radio and a manual 3-speed on the column?
