Range brass, not unusual to see dark etchings on 5.56.
Is that from people having cleaning solution present in the chamber?

Are you referring to that darkened area between the case mouth and the shoulder? I think that is from the annealing process.

All rifle brass is annealed, leaving a dark area around the case neck, but you wont see that on commercial brass because it is polished out. Annealing makes the neck softer than the body allowing the bullet to be released without cracking the neck.

No, not annealing. Dark patterns that you can feel with a finger nail.
I'll try to take some good pictures.

Trying to use the uploader for a 66kb photo and it says I'm exceeding the size limit.
    :n00b:

So I'll go use a different mechanism that works.

Cherry picked those out of a batch processed yesterday.
Suspecting that some people swab the bore and ignore the chamber.

Yeah, thinking about brass seen over the years...
The brown looks like burned on hydrocarbons but I seen that before at ranges.
Some of it comes off with a thumb nail and some takes a stainless scouring pad.
