Straight walled .223 case. Interesting round.

I think you may be on to something.

Last image from BigTanker shows the energy at 200 yards. Notice that they used 4" shorter barrel for the Blackout.

I'm not saying anything for or against this new round, just posting info, but 300 Blackout is made for shorter barrels. IIRC, the subsonic rounds optimum barrel length is 10 1/2".

    It's nothing more than a 357 Maximum

Case is a little longer and it's rimless. The Maximum pushes a 158 gr at about 1900 fps. I can't find and specifics on the Legend yet.

Winchester if trying to fill a nitch. Will it catch on? Who knows. If we didn't have these companys trying new things, we'd be stuck with 30-06 and .45 acp.

I've always wondered why someone hasn't just straight walled 5.56 and made it either .357" or .355". "Oh, you have a .357 Sig carbine or .357 lever rifle? Oh, that's cute... Hook your trigger finger on THIS" :D

    Would be VERY interested if:
-It can be made by cutting and forming .223 brass
-Lee makes dies for it, instead of boutique weirdness
-Doesn't require strange magazines, please please please use STANAG or USGI mags!
    -Uses standard BCG without modification

I surmise, based on the parent case, that my stock of H110 might get a workout... :)

I tried the .450 BM route and disliked it. Mags needed more massaging than I cared for to be reliable....

I don't see anything in the article that says it is based on a .223 case - Just that it is straight walled. It may have the same base, but a .223 Rem is tapered, not straight. So, this isn't just a necked up .223, although it may share the same base, I don't know.

And, it is going to be offered in a bolt rifle. Maybe Winchester doesn't make semi-auto MSR rifles to chamber it in.

I wonder why they didn't publish velocity numbers.

Seems like it would make for a very nice public land deer rifle for Indiana though.

Since 16" is the longest barrel most people run with the .300 BO, that is an entirely fair comparison.

If I can shoot it with just an upper and existing 5.56 lower and mags, I will give it a try. Especially if the energy and ballistics are there.

I would have preferred, then, that they used a 16" barrel on their new round. Or if it is unsuited to a 16" barrel, then not compare it to the .300 BO.
