Looks to be in good condition for a relic and I don't believe I've ever seen a cannon ball with a weight number cast into it.

I guess it could be a cannon ball if you happen to have a cannon with a matching bore. :dunno:

Wait, is this like a handful of AR parts where you just HAVE to build one because you already have the beginnings? :):

A 16 pounder? Sounds like fun. If we do some extrapolation with the "safe" powder charges set by the NSSA for artillery, you'd have a charge of about 1 pound 10 ounces of black powder per shot!

That would make quite a large boom.

I have the fuse and a pound of two of black powder. Plastic pipe comes in five inch.

Anyone have a trained monkey or idiot brother-in-law to light it?

    YOU MADE ME BLOW SNOT!

I couldn't help thinking of my former brother in law... He's missing a couple of fingers from his 'Home Made' July 4th fireworks circa 1980 or so.
This is the same guy that cut a LARGE tree limb off directly over his head, wadded up the carpet and crashed through the front door of his apartment on a motorcycle, shoot a framing nail through his hand with a nail gun, got a row of stitches from a soup can lid, and that's just what I can remember right off my head from 35+ years ago.

I saw him about a month ago and was surprised he was still alive!

Received a six pounder ball this year from a nephew.
He found it walking down a road.

I can tell you without a doubt that it is not a high school shot put. Boys' shots are 12 lbs and Girls' are 8.8 lbs. Maybe a College/Olympic Shot, but definitely not HS. You're welcome...

College and IOC/International track and field rules use a 16 lb for both men's shotput and hammer throw.
