My buddy and I have used a fair amount of the Wolf Gold. It's been reasonably accurate, and we haven't had any issues.

Wolf Gold is all my daughter uses for competition. The Faxon barrel in her rifle really likes it. She uses it out to 400 yards then switches to heavier ammo.

Wolf Military Classic 62gr HP I can get 1 moa at 100yds on some groups. Usually it's 1.5 moa at 100yds. For $4 a box I can't see why I would buy anything else.

    I have a 1/8 twist barrel.

Whats the verdict on the quality of silver/golden bear or wolf gold ammo?

The verdict is dependant on what you need the ammunition to do.

As avboiler said, if it is 2 MOA ammo, that is total sh&# performance for some things. But for banging steel in R&G matches or plinking at 50 and 100 yards...well, who cares?

Wolf Gold is my go-to for cheap AR fun. Reasonably accurate, better than M193 and way better than M855; close to 5.56 velocity; and actually has decent terminal performance for FMJ.

How many shots in those groups and what kind of rifle? Everything I've seen about it says its at best 2-3 MOA ammo.

I have yet to use 223 in my AR and have only shot 5.56. Anyone have opinions on whats better?

If it works, and it should. The 5.56 is made to cycle on the higher pressure ammo. And a 223 in the bigger 5.56 chamber can lose inertia and reduce accuracy.

5 shot groups. Usually there are 4 shots in 0.75" groups one seems to fly out to around 1.5" for me. I have an Anderson 16" 1/8 twist barrel.

All mine (Bushmasters) do sub MOA with American Made Ammo. Never would feed it Russian or some other foreign stuff.

I will use the cheapest ammo I can plunk with if it's accurate enough. I can replace many barrels it's cheaper than buying the more expensive ammo. The savings alone you can replace 5-8 barrels. That's at 8-10 thousand rounds per barrel.

    75gr Hornady HPBT Match 22.8gr IMR 8208XBR

    0.468" 5 shot group 100 yards

It cost me around 40 cents to reload these so I save a little.

That's mighty good! Guess you got lucky and got one that likes cheap ammo! Mine barely does that with expensive ammo.
And your writing isn't really any worse than mine. I can't read it either. :):

I've found the opposite to be true in mine. I thought that maybe it was because the 223 had better bullets than the 5.56, but Geco uses the same bullets in their 223 and 5.56, and the 223 has been more accurate in 3 different ARs.

My local gun shop owner likes me to report back on different ammo I shoot. She uses my reports to let others know what they are getting if they ask her.

My buddy has a Daniel Defense barrel he gets the same results. You might want to try it if you haven't yet. Wolf Military Classic 62gr HP. We had trouble with about everything else wolf but this round.

I must have slept in that part of class my writing is horrible. My boys usually translated my notes to the teachers lol. Finally they got smart and said please use our emails in the future.

    Even M193 and M855?

I just got done with some M193 in mine very disappointed. I just picked up some American Eagle XM855 have not had a chance to test it in my new Anderson 16" 1/8 twist barrel. My 1/8 barrel hates anything under 62gr usually. Loves 75gr.
