Need a short shellholder

Redding makes the competition shellholder set that places the rim deeper and deeper into the shellholder.

I need the opposite.
I need more case in the die.

Anyone make this kind of thing?

Already tried runing a shellholder over a sharpening stone and sandpaper...now its crooked af.

Look for someone with a surface grinder. Lay the shell holder on a magnetic chuck bring it back to parallel.

Maybe you can find someone to chuck it up in a lathe.
The top lip that extracts the case is about .060" The amount you gain by shortening the shell holder is limited.
Take off too much and you weaken the lip and risk a stuck case in the die.

The Redding Competition shell holders do not push the case further into the sizing die. There are five shell holders in a set and the resized case will have from .002 to .010 less shoulder bump than a standard shell holder.

If you have a problem with pushing the case shoulder back far enough then just lap the top of the shell holder until the case chambers. You can lap the top of the shell holder on a flat surface using fine wet and dry sand paper. Wet or oil the sand paper and move the shell holder in a figure eight pattern rotating the shell holder frequently in your fingers. Keep measuring the shell holder around its diameter and remove .001 or .002 at a time and checking the case fit in the chamber.

I'm 69 years old and only had to lap a shell holder once in over 48 years of reloading. Meaning most of the time the die simply needs to be adjusted further down with press cam over. Or also the possibility of a worn press with too much slop in the linkage. And most resizing dies will push the case shoulder back more than actually needed and why Redding makes their competition shell holders to size the case "LESS".

What BigEd says. The Redding shellholders only *reduce* headspace because any die should be able to set the shoulder back too far even for a SAAMI min chamber. If you still can't get enough headspace with the die on a hard cam over, you have a defective die or press in most cases.

Yep. Im 61, been reloading over 45 years and have never had the need to machine a shellholder down.
Have you tried a different manufactures shellholder?

I think i have an annealing problem...case springback after sizing.

I will anneal a little longer and see if it does the trick.
