I’m m trying to find a load for a 265gr Hornady fp using lil’gun . It’s going to be shot out of a Ruger bolt action for deer. I’ve used Hornady 240gr XTP in the past they just aren’t very accurate out of my gun 4”-5” at 100yds. I’m looking for accuracy over velocity. I have got loads worked up using 2400 & 296. Would like to load some up using lil’gun before I go to the range. Thanks for the help.

What kind of groups with these powders?

You know, with a Blunt Nose 240gr. XTP projectile 4" @ 100 yds. may?? be as good as it gets??

Would still be a Deer Getter at that range...Bill.

PS: You do know?? that a stock Ruger 77/44 is not known for MOA Groups...Bill.

A hunting buddy has a 77/44 and we worked up some loads for him. His bolt gun was not a fan of 240 gr XTPs or Semi wadcutters. We tried FTX and it wasn’t until we tried 300 gr. XTPs did the groups tighten up. With CCI 350 primers and a heavy load of H110 that 77/44 will produce 1” - 1 1/4” groups off the bench. We did play with the trigger on it and that helped too.

What diameter XTP are using? I have a Marlin 1894 that was 5-6" at 50 yards with .429 diameter. I went to a .430 diameter and it's 2-1/2 to 3" at 100 when I do my part. Might try the .430
