I will be having an ammo turn in event at my house this weekend as well. And I will only charge $4 per pound after the first 5. Primers will be accepted for an additional fee.

Seriously might be worth driving up there and parking a block away with a sign that reads "I'll pay YOU $5/lb. for your unwanted ammo."

    Ammo disposal?

My father passed away and I got some guns that are almost as old as me. Probably about 50 rounds of 22LR and 12G shells that are at least 30+ years old. I’m not comfortable shooting them not knowing their condition or storage.

What is a proper way to dispose of old Ammo?

I would shoot it. I have some 50+ year old 20G shells that were my dad's and they fired just fine. If the 22's don't fire, pull the bullet and dump the powder in the grass.

I disposed of some ammo this morning with my wife. About 150 .22 rounds and 70 or so 9 MM.

I guess if I take my club membership fee and divide it by rounds fired, technically I paid to dispose of them.

But it was a lot more fun than those dolts up there had!

What others have said - shoot it. If you're uncomfortable doing that, you can try selling it or giving it away here in the classifieds, or calling your local range and asking if they can take it from you. But unless it's visibly damaged, I wouldn't be afraid to shoot it. I have Mosin food that's nearly 100 years old, been free of its spam can shelter for God knows how long, and still goes bang.

Also, sorry to hear about your father. My condolences.
