Last time I weighed them, I had 18# of spent primers. I still haven't confirmed who will buy them for scrap in south central IN?

In my younger days I'd load them in shotgun shells and use it on snakes. Light recoil and did a great job. I just can't remember what wad I used. Iirc it was Winchester but thats about all I remember we're talking 30+ years ago.

I've got a 2L pop bottle full. Working on my second 2L. I'd say 2/3 to 1/2 have come from range pick up.

You could take a sample of what you have in the container, say 10, and weigh those.

100 would probably be better. Make sure anvils are included.

Then weigh what you have, container and all.

Dump out your container and weigh it empty.

Subtract the container weight from your total.

Divide the new total weight by the weight of your sample.

Multiply that number by the number of primers in your sample.

The result should be closer than any best guess.

It is early, but considering the hour, that process seems sound. Corrections are welcomed.

Thanks, I'll have to try that.

I took an empty 8 pound powder jug (the bigger one since it was for Clays powder), and filled it with primers. I use it like you would a kettlebell, when I work out outside. I have not weighed it, but I think it is around 50 lbs. I do loaded carries, swings, snatches, etc. Works well and it's free, unlike kettlebells.

    That was pretty quick!

So, you gonna count'em out individually now and see how close you are?

    Negative.
    I'm content with the estimate.
I started saving them when I moved here about 9 years ago.
Was curious how many rounds I've put downrange
This doesn't include shotgun, 22, steel case or military ammo (LC etc.)
I figure it's around 200 rounds per month...I'm gonna have to do better next year.

Years ago the company sent 2 of us to PA for a week long class. I checked the area craigslist and found a 5 gallon bucket of 38spl brass for $15. The ad had been up for a month so I sent a message. He's a block out of the way from the airport to the motel. I packed my Lee C frame and mounting kit. Sunday thru Thursday I popped primers from the cases into the trash can under the table every evening. The desk clerk gave me tape to seal the lid on the bucket. It was my carry on headed home. Wonder if room service checked the trash bag? More than likely they wouldn't know what they were.

Wow then. I wonder how many are in my 3 55Gallon Trash Cans? They are too heavy to move but maybe I could get them to the truck scales.

Couldn't tell you, it's been about a year since I've been to the scrapyard.
Your close enough to me it might be an option, Lapaz Scrap and Iron I believe is the name, just east of where US6 and 31 cross on the north side of the road

Yeah you've told me the name a few times over the year lol. Will try calling tomorrow.
