Between the rock and that hardplace
Here's my XJ down at Haspin a year ago in Feburary. What a MUDPIT! Since then I have added a winch, and removed the brushuard. It is my DD so I can't get too carried away!:D

This isn't really hardcore but it sure is fun! The video is at Haspin. My son and I drove it an hour and a half to get there. We wheeled it all day long and drove it home.

Rearflankdowndraft and I will be going to Drummond Island,MI Sept 10 -13 to work the ARRL Sept VHF QSO party ham radio contest. WE need a 4x4 to get to our operating location. Will be using my Chevy K1500 4x4 or my daughters Jeep. Have some problems with the truck and hope to have it fixed and ready to go.. the Jeep is a backup. The truck will pull the trailer better for the 400 mile trip to get there. Drummond Island is a popular off road location in the UP of Michigan

So what direction are you gonna take with the VW? Are you gonna make a baja or a buggy?

I'm actually going to make it a 4x4 trail rig. I have samurai axles n divorced transfer case and Isuzu rodeo engine n transmission. Gunna be on 31 I believe. Gunna try to get it built this winter. Waiting for money to get suspension, thinking coil overs.

Powered by one of these, with EFI:

    8.jpg

    Specs:

Started life as a 1984 Chevy K10, SWB. Now has 119" wheelbase
6" lift front springs with ford towers, ****ty shocks
Rear has a shackle flip with stock springs

Engine is a 383 Stroker, ~350 horsepower. Dart Iron Eagle 180cc heads, 9.6:1 compression, Keith Black pistons, Eagle crank and 5.7" rods. Cam is a Comp Xtreme Fuel Injection, pretty small and smooth

Transmission is an SM 465 with a Luk clutch, hydraulic, etc.

Transfer case is an NP 205 (for now)

Front axle is a Dana 60 with crossover and hydraulic assist steering, a beefy tie rod, Superior Axles, CTM U-joints, etc. 4.10 gears and a lock-right locker

Rear axle is a 14 bolt GM, shaved, detroit, disc brakes, Superior axles, 4.10 gears

Cage is all 1.5" .120 wall I think. All that's left of the cab is the roof, really. The front fenders are gone, hood is narrowed, and it's 30" wide in front.

Tires are 39.5x15x15 TSLs in front, 39.5x18.5x15 Boggers in the rear on Stazworks double beadlocks

And I'm sure I forgot something.

Here is my current project, a 93 Bronco. It currently has 33" BFG MT's, a winch bumper, and winch. I'm installing dual batteries, 200 amp alternator, 4" extended arm lift, and new brake lines (rusted out.) I really need to get off my ass on this one. If anyone wants to come over and help, I'd appreciate it. And as a bonus, if you ever needed the garage space for working on your rig...

    garage_pan_001.jpg

    Here's the first truck I took off-roading, 75 IH 150. Totally stock.

    IMAGE--003----.JPG

My Samurai, 3" lift, 33" tires, geared to match, otherwise pretty stock.

    IMG_20030804_0140.JPG

And my last off-road vehicle, Jeep Cherokee. That had about 4" of lift. Never did get it regeared. Kept breaking U-Joints at Badlands.
