Police action shooting, stop man shooting into occupied car

Police action shooting on city?s near northwest side, no officers injured | Fox 59 News ? fox59.com

Indianapolis Metropolitan SWAT officers were involved in a police action shooting early Tuesday morning. No officers were injured.
The officers were already patrolling the area near Harding and Pruitt streets on the near northwest side when they heard shots fired. They saw a man firing shots at a car with four people inside, said Lt. Chris Bailey.

“Our officers were in the right place at the right time,” he said.
Seems like more officers would equal more opportunities to be in the right place at the right time.

Good on the officers for eliminating the threat. Glad that nobody except the perp were injured.

Multiple cases of someone going into an area to shoot at stuff & people, very much like tactics groups use when displaying their control or intent to control an area, similar to protection rackets..
"pay us or we burn down your store" .. could be " allow us control of the drug trade in this area or we shoot up the place"..

It could also be a bad batch of Prozac..

Oh, no. It's much better to cut back on cops on the street and give raises to the office staff.

Ballard says more sidewalks, parks, roads and bridges (infrastructure) will curb crime. More cops are not needed.

From the viewpoint of a police officer with skin in the game, so to speak, this is a failure in leadership and a shining example of the mayor burying his head in the sand.

From the viewpoint of a tax payer in Marion County, this is unacceptable for the mayor to ignore the people. You do not hear us citizens calling for more bike lanes, parks or cricket fields. You hear us constantly clamoring for safer neighborhoods. Believing that parks and bike lanes are even remotely related to crime is completely out of touch with reality.

I dont know if its a gang problem. The ass clowns that I deal with are generally not gang affiliated. I do believe that there are several small-time gangs operating in Indy who definitely have a hand in the crime stats. That said its not an out and out war over turf. Its more like "you talked to my girl ao you gotta be killed now" or some other nonsense. The killings are not "business" as they once were, but now are "just because". The culture supports shooting and killing as a way to solve relatively minor problems, and this is the root of the problem.

What percentage of impd man hours is being used for the ticket brigade? The shoulder of 465 during business hours isn't the right place and right time to stop violent crime.

There is a reason he is known as Greg "bicycle shed" Ballard.
