Movie "Whiplash" - anyone seen it?

A friend of my son's is a drummer and wants to see this movie that was supposedly released in January 2014 (or October 2014 depending on the site you read) but you can't even buy it on Amazon.

Is it real?

It's gotten rave reviews. I've seen it on many of the critic's top 10 lists for 2014.

I remember seeing previews for it a while back, but it seems like it was for a very short time. There wasn't much advertising behind it.
