I have cats, but that for theological reasons. Cats treat their owners like worthless scum, and as a Calvinist, that reminds me that my sinful self is viewed the same way by God until the blood of Christ covers me.

As someone with both dogs and a cat (had 2 cats, but one passed away ), I pretty much agree with the following:

Dog: "My humans feed me, give me shelter, and provide for all my needs. They must be gods!"
Cat: "My humans feed me, give me shelter, and provide for all my needs. I must be a god!"

And this: "In some ancient civilizations, cats were revered as gods. The cats have never forgotten this."

Seriously though, our cat almost acts more like a dog than the dogs do. She's always the first to greet me when I get home, and pretty much follows me around from the time I get up in the morning.

My wife and kids have 2 cats. I do not. All I do is let them live in the house I pay for and pay for everything else they get.

Theologically, I guess they are more like pagan idols to which I make sacrifices of blood, money and food and they do nothing in return.

Maybe you should employ the cats. You know, give'em a job.

We have a calico that does that with me - it definitely makes life better having a pet like that.

News flash for dog owners- your houses ALL smell like dog. You are noseblind.
You would hate my house then...lol. 4 Australian Cattle Dogs, 1 pit mix, 3 turtles in a 125 gallon tank, 3 axolotls in a 55, and a planted tank with shrimp and small fish. Yes it is crazy, furry and sometimes noisy.

You don't get dogs? Or even pets in general? That's OK. There are people out there who voted for hillary, and others who think socialism is a good thing, hell, there are people out there who can't decide what gender they are...

Yes, this is seriously how I view people that don't like dogs. They are that crazy. I guess we can't all be blessed with intelligence.

Ever stop to wonder how dogs got the knickname "man's best friend"? Yes, it's true that dogs can, and are breed to perform tasks for their humans. Beyond that, however, is the fact that a dog is so unlike other animals. Their pack mentality (societal structure if you will) is such that when they live with humans, those humans become part of their pack (family).

Just as humans can turn on each other, so can a dog, and I'm sure a dog can get the same mental illness as humans, but 99% (for the dog) of the time it's because of the way they were treated by those humans, that will cause a dog to lose it.

However, a dog, and a human are just a good match. It's almost like after God created Eve, he thought something was still missing, so he had man domesticate some wolves into dogs.

I've never been without a dog, unless it was because I couldn't. I adopted strays on deployments even, to help me remember I was human. Now I have one as a service dog, because of injuries during my last deployment. I feel pity who people who have to live without a dog in their life. To live with, and enjoy the unconditional love of a dog is one of life's great pleasures. This is why people get so attached to them, almost like a family member. (look at my sig line for one)

Way down in our back yard, by the creek, (about 100 yds from the house) we have a boulder. It's called "Dog rock". This is a monument. Under, and all around this rock is where we bury our dogs, who unfortunately don't have the lifespan of humans. This is a photo I took of our 21 year old son (had to call him home from college) when we buried Diamond, his min-pin. This should tell you all you need to know about how close dogs, and humans are suppose to be...

As far as "dog smell" goes, yeah it's something you live with, but if you haven't any fond memories of "puppy breath" you're missing out. That smell is far less offending than some of the smells I've had to deal with standing in line at public places, and it means you have a new lifelong best friend.
You know what I like best about most people? Their dogs.

Don't get me wrong. The smell is not what puts me off dogs. I just stated a factoid.

    If you like dogs, fine.

I don't dislike them. I do not see the need. If anyone else does, good for you.

My way of thinking is that I have a family. Don't need some other pack. See things another way? Great! Go live your life.

Different people living their lives in different way...it's American. No problem.
