Well, equipment gets dropped first for this reason. And sometimes it's a failure.
Sometimes when there is a problem vehicle that can't get fixed, it get's filled with all the broken equipment from the unit, and then intentionally fails.

Maybe a Humvee that has an intermittent problem. They install a radio from another that never seems to get fixed. Maybe a tire that always deflates. Etc.
When the chute fails, they don't have to worry about why it won't get fixed. They can replace it.

Notice how the USAF C-130s (probably 86th Airlift Wing out of Ramstein AB) put the cargo right on target, even the three that went epic-fail SPLAT!

I guess this is why we practice and drill but I have a small problem with the amount of enjoyment this guy is getting from the fail that results in the loss of US gear and equipment. If Acteon's assessment of the situation is accurate then.....YES....why just send it out to pasture. Let it fail in a way that gives our guys experience and is fun!

Well, actaeon's assessment is that there could have been one of them a real failure, and one could have been a "hangar queen" being disposed of. Coulda been a little of both.

As for the enjoyment.... were you never young.
Something blows up or goes bang, and it's fun time.

That "young" part.... I needed that. I get way too serious sometimes. :-)

What the heck does being young have to do with enjoying things blowing up?

As for the drop, been there done that. Yes there are stories of that sort of thing happening.

Congrats to AM General on three new contract orders.
Replacements will keep the line running for another day.
They are only producing 12/day now, so that is 1/4 of a days production.
Tires still look ok, but they are the older 12 lug designs, not suitable for armored upfits.
Not much there that can be used, bent the crap out of the frame rails.
Surprised it didn't make a bigger crater in the ground.

Yep. As long as no one gets hurt (and no one with too many stripes who can identify you sees/hears the video) it's hilarious

Well a couple of soldiers will regret their choices on this. Seems like soldier might have altered the rigging and is looking at up to ten years in prison.

Yup, guilty of sabotage. Damaged the rigging on three Hummers . The poor vehicles didn't stand a chance. And that dummy laughing in the background. Military was not too happy with him either.
