BGDave,
To each his own, dude.
That video is from a television presentation many years ago.
This will be the music, major vocals and choral. Been to performances in Houston, San Francisco, Dallas... and now (yippie, yappie, yahooie!) Indianapolis.
The best so far was with Ying Huang fifteen years ago, this awesome lady. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkUq98oiyRc
The better 2/3's and I were right in front of her and the two male singers.
Like Bogart said about the black bird, it's the stuff dreams are made of.
I'm really looking forwards to the Indie performance.
And yes, it's the symphony.
Many of the arrangements are a slow first "half" followed by a forceful faster paced second. I thought the conductor Krzysztof Urbanski (the ISO music director) was inappropriately dragging out and subduing the first to emphasize the second. But hey, he's the one that's holding the baton. Still and all it was a thoroughly enjoyable performance and dinner at the Weber steakhouse a block over was great.
Ode for Tuna... one of my favorite works of musical art. An absolute mother to conduct/play though. All those damn time changes and keys. I sometimes thought good ol' Karl was just screwing with people when he wrote it. "How many time changes can I put in the next 10bars? Let's try 19".
I go to introduced to this in 1993. North Putnam HS marching band did this for our show. Even though our arrangement was watered down and we were a bunch of hs kids it was still impressive. I remember buying the CD when I went to college (as a music ed major)
