Combined with the Marine aviation issues... kinda sorta seems like long-term maintenance and training budgetary chickens coming home to roost.

(Tempted to quip something about McCain making it hard on consumers again, but yeah, I know its a different McCain.)

Four since start of year. USS Antietam ran aground in Tokyo bay, and USS Lake Champlain collided with a South Korean fishing vessel.

All four in the same part of Asia?
Maybe there is some sort of Bermuda triangle thing going there.

    .
My suspicious nature makes me wonder if the opening move of an asian conflict might begin by asian captained merchant vessels "accidentally" ramming US warships in the area.

Kind of hard for a lumbering slow merchant to be able to do that if the warships crew has their heads on.

For military service who's job is to see ships, and then shoot said ships, they are doing a pretty lousy job at the first part and aren't inspiring much confidence for the second part.

Probably better odds than the army crashing vehicles or the air force crashing planes.

My best bet on a cause, exhaustion.
I was exhausted more than 75 percent of the time.
Watches, maintenance, drills, emergencies, record keeping; all leave little time for snoozing.

Then, let's decrease the number of ships available, yet keep all the jobs those ships has to do.
Increased wear and tear on the equipment and the men.
