I have bought and sold a lot of vehicles over the years. We recently decided to look into a jeep wrangler. What is the idea behind these things being so over priced? My wife has a 2013 suv that has 70k miles on it and the value now is roughly half of what it was new.

I was looking at a 2010 jeep wrangler with 50k miles on it, great shape. They are asking 23k only 3k less then it was when it was new in 2010. This is one of the worst cases I saw but in general these things are all thousands over KBB. It almost makes no sense to buy used. Any one with experience with jeeps have any buying tips??

Jeep Wranglers hold their value extremely well. If you’re wanting a newer one, stick with the 2012’s and up. They have the newer, and better, 3.6 engine. The 2007-2011’s have the 3.8, and they don’t have the power for the jeep.

I drive a 2005, which has the old reliable 4.0.

The Jeep Wrangler is more than just a vehicle. It’s kind of a club. And the available accessories for them is a huge deal. There’s nothing you can’t do to them.

They don’t drive/ride like any other vehicle either.

I wouldnt mind a 4.0 jeep but even those are 5-7k over kbb in good shape with low miles. So I figured id go with a 07 +

I would shop around as that seems awfully high for that Jeep. My parents bought a 2013 Wrangler for around $24k and it only had 17k miles and about $2-3k in XD/Nitto Wheels.

I too have been looking at Jeeps but can't justify dropping that kind of money. Especially since I'm just looking for a reliable 4x4 to drive to and from work on snow days.

Yeah, they hold their value very well. I had a 2004 Rubicon that I bought new for $31k. My daughter totaled it in 2015, and the insurance company gave me $23,500.

I wanted to keep it, and my insurance company told me I could if I was willing to beat the scrap bid by $1. I wasn't willing to pay $15,001 for a Jeep with a bent frame.

Been bouncing around in Jeeps since the early 90's.

Bought my first Jeep when I turned 18 the 5 years later I bought a wrangler. They are super dependable, ride like nothing else. I love my wrangler. It's an 04 unlimited with the 4.0 inline 6. If you take care of her she will take care of you. I literally drove through a tree as it fell ontobthe road I was driving on. A little body work a new windshield she was back on the road.

I bought a 2005 Wrangler Rubicon with 24k miles in Aug 2009 for $16.5k. I sold it in may with 72k miles for $15k. In that time I put a new set of wheels & tires on it, changed the fluids and paid a few hundred bucks to have the bumpers and rock sliders powder coated. Wranglers are one of, if not the best investments in the automobile world, if there is such a thing.

    Do you miss your Jeep?

15k? I’d be tempted to sell mine for that much...
