    Is this normal?

Paid informant sells high purity drugs to x who he also has a beef with over the last 5 months. He shoots the drugs into x's arm, most likely enough to OD anyone, and watches him die. It took about 6 hours for x to die choking on vomit and fluids. He just ignored x and didn't call for help.

LE knows about this, but PI is helping them build a case for a really big dealer. PI is also linked to several other OD's and possibly two other deaths.

That's a lot of detail for you to know. If that's the way it went down, then yeah, that's a problem... however, as always, there's probably a discrepancy here and there with that story. Look at it this way, and maybe it will give you solace. If what all you say is true, you can bet the "really big dealer" probably knows what's up, and the person you're speaking of, isn't long for this world.

In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police who investigate crimes and the district attornies who prosecute the offenders. These are their stories.

I'm curious what jurisdiction is using a paid informant who actively shoots up victims until they OD.

To me, that looks like several layers of problems.

Unless there's some sort of immunity built in to this (which would be pretty rare) the informant can still be charged and prosecuted for the crimes committed while being an informant. They may (or may not) get leniency.

The cross examination of that informant, though, would be excruciating.

A lot of people think they know a lot of details but usually there are 3 or more sides to a story and the one we hear is the one the teller wants heard.
