So I am wondering about it in general. I understand that videos may be monetized. From what I understand allows for ads? But to the best of my knowledge I have never seen an ad when watching some of my favorites like Hickock 45 or Paul Harrell. So are the ads only on the video when it first comes out?

    Thanks

I believe I remember one content creator explain they can select if ads pop up or not, but I can not remember who it was.

If YouTube de- monetize the creators video the creator will get no money. But here it’s the suck part,YouTube can still run the adds but YouTube gets all the money from the adds.
This is why the creators have set up Patreon pages

If you use adblock or ublock, you won't get ads.
I wonder if the device used has anything to do with getting the ads or not?

I usually unwind for the day by watching a few videos, be it a firearms related content or even paranormal videos. I use a kindle and I never get any ad's.
