if you don't want to click on the link, someone is offering a couple of safes for free. The hitch is that it says the locks have been drilled out. I am wondering how much it might cost to make the safes operational. Welding holes closed or patching holes via welding is no problem for me. I know nothing about lock sets, some advice from guys who know safes might help me get a couple of safes at a reasonable overall cost or save me from a half days wasted time.

I was hoping for more info on the cost to replace the tumbler mechanism. Are you really serious in asking if the person who placed the ad is a thief?

Have you ever thought of just calling a safe company and asking.

Common in the storage unit auction world. They break into it to find something or nothing. They now must get rid of the heavy safes...if they found treasure in them there safes then giving away for free may be no biggie
