Clark County deputy shot, suspect dead

NEW WASHINGTON, Ind. — The Clark County Sheriff says a deputy is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot by a man who later took his own life.
Sheriff Danny Rodden says the deputy, whose name was not released, was shot late Monday as he stepped from his car while responding to a domestic dispute in New Washington, about 20 miles north of Louisville, Ky.
Rodden says the suspect was found dead a few hours later of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He is identified as 33-year-old Douglas Frakes. Rodden says the suspect fired at officers from a nearby woods. Other officers were able to pull the wounded deputy to safety. The wounded officer was taken by helicopter to a Louisville hospital where he was in critical but stable condition.
