A rare sight in Normandy as we rarely get snow.

The Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy.
The cemetery is located right next to Omaha Beach, just a few hundred yards from the beach, as you can see from the first picture.

I've found a number of threads you have put together on the sacred, sad, and beautiful place.

Thank you so much for sharing them.

Do you live close to the area? What town are you in (if not prying too much)?

I live in Normandy a few miles away from the coast.

It's not even the largest cemetery we have.
One has over 14,000 graves.Another one also over 10,000.

There are 12 US military cemeteries in France, both from WW1 and WW2, for a total of 60,560 graves.

To that you have to add thousands of soldiers "missing in action" (close to 7,000 I think).
Their names are at the different cemeteries but they don't have graves.

I hope to get there to tour the area some day.

A good friend of mine was there a couple of years ago. After some time in Normandy, they were down in Paris. He said there is a notable difference between how visitors from America are greeted in Normandy vs. Paris.

Thanks again for all the photos.

Certainly WW2 vets are treated like rock stars over here.
I had the honor of meeting some vets (Canadian ones) last year.
They had a tour bus with a police escort.
People wanted to give them hugs and take pictures with them everywhere they went.

It's not that Parisians don't like Americans, it's that they don't like anyone who's not from Paris.
They are rude to their fellow Frenchmen from other regions too.
