Yeah, they may be getting the numbers to determine whether to adjust the speed limit.

Also, if there is a detour in the area, they may be trying to track a before/after total of cars. They determine what the current count is on the road. Do the other roadwork, then count again to figure out where people are going. It can help with a transportation/comprehensive plan.

Call up the local planning and zoning department and ask. :) They don't usually get alot of calls about that so someone might be REALLY excited to answer the question.

    S.E. of disorder
DEA gathering information. If a street has an unusually high traffic count they know drugs are being dealt on that street. Once they can establish a relationship they'll have a state trooper make a traffic stop and steal the citizens wallet. While that is occurring on one end of the suspected trafficking block a second diversion will take place on the other end of the street. This one will involve a rather boisterous "discussion" of OC vs CC that will segue into Glock vs 1911. While the majority of the occupants in the target zone are distracted IMPD will send in the boner drone and start scanning houses. If they determine that a child's toy has been stolen during a birthday party by one of the attending adults Bloomington will send in their newly acquired armored vehicle for the required jackboot curb stompings that will occur in the newly constructed roundabout.

While this is all occurring a bunch of guys with no connection to the area will stop for cheeseburgers and discuss among other things the propensity of persons attempting to circumvent the rules so they can use the classifieds. The real problem though isn't the newbs trying to turn this into a sales forum but some guy that should be banned, some guy that has been banned and some guy that's going to be banned. Cheeseburgers will be offered up but a some point "my ryeeets" will be attacked and . . . .

    What were we talking about?

True that. I sit on the technical committee of our local Metropolitan Planning Organization. They are the traffic planning folks and get really giddy about 2030 projections and such.
