Been battling the flood all weekend. Valley got so muddy the only way I could get stuff out was to winch it from the top of the hill. That creek is usually small enough to jump across now it’s over 10ft deep, it feeds directly into silver creek though. The Dino hunter jeep saved the day.

West Baden is under water. Looks like the dome, hotel, and casino are all still dry though.

The land around the dome has always flooded. The hotel will be dry.

Right. That area between the dome and the roadway is a low area. I wasn't sure how the casino would fair though. The video doesn't show it very well but it looks like part of the parking lot is under water but not the casino itself.

My sister in law yesterday. Phone call last night at 2am, "Dad" was laying in bed with 6" of water surrounding him on the floor. :(

    Yep.

Not much of this information is useful to people in this situation right now - but it's imminently helpful if you're shopping for real estate.

Very useful tool for future investments.

Like Expat said too it would be 2 weeks for the water levels to get back in the banks if it quit raining that whole 2 weeks.

Here upstream of Elkhart we have the same homes submerged in water that flood any time the river crests, they always have and always will. What I don't understand is several of them also currently have nice late model cars now very obviously flooded out in their drives. In our area there was more than ample warning and time to have moved them, makes me wonder why.

Had about 3 inches of water in my basement when I got home from work last Tuesday. I have an old house with no perimeter drain or sump pump pit. Just a drain in the basement floor that's connected to field tile that drains into a ditch. I went out in the field and found the field tile my drain goes into, dug it up, and blocked off the tile so it couldn't keep coming back up and into my basement. I had a sump pump laying around, and an old swimming pool pump that I kept after we got rid of the pool. I stuck the pool pump hose down the drain, pumped the water into a big Rubbermaid fake Christmas tree tote that had the sump in it, and pumped it out the basement window onto my driveway.

Even with that tile plugged, the water just kept coming in. I pumped it every morning and every evening. Last night around 6PM, it finally stayed down.

It sucked. But a lot of people around here had it much worse.

Some guys here at work had 4 feet of water in their basements, had their power and gas cut off, and were told to evacuate their homes. All live close to the river in Elkhart.

I heard Jefferson street in Plymouth reopened this morning so the water there must have gone down significantly. It is starting to go down in Starke County as well...highway department has reopened some of the roads. They will have a lot of inspecting and repairing to do after all that water was racing across the roads.

Thanks for the update on Plymouth. Grew up there and the floods have been getting worse. I districntly recall having “flood days” during high school asthe river cuts the high school off when it floods. Don’t recall that issue in elementary school, and I don’t recall having 3+ days for it like they just did.

Luckily the worst my family got in this flood was some water in the garage. Incredibly minor compared to what a lot of people had to deal with.

I just saw another post that the viaduct under the train tracks on 17 is open again...the one that comes into town near the old phone company building (LaPorte street I believe) so that's huge. It was one of the early areas to flood/close.
