I found this article that illuminates the massive red flags that had gone up without action.

It would appear that the officer who didn't go into the building (Peterson), along with several others, HAD RECOMMENDED that Cruz be "Baker Acted." This means committed against his will.

I know I live in a little bubble in Fort Wayne. We're not a huge metropolis with a heavily overburdened system, but I never imagined that these large metropolitan areas were falling down as bad as this one appears to be. There is no excuse for this kind of malfeasance / negligence / incompetence on behalf of the system.

I don't like the system. I don't trust the system. But what system there is I do hope works. It would appear that it doesn't.

    Regards,

So it would seem that the commission that was to investigate the has completed their investigation.

One of the things I do find disturbing is that the one of the commissioners, Ryan Petty, lost his 14 year old daughter Alaina in the rampage. Perhaps this was a cathartic event for him, but I wonder if it is/was proper for someone so emotionally attached to an event such as this to part of the process of review. Even if he was able to be objective, would not justifiable concern possibly interfere with other commission members from asking disturbing questions and openly discussing the event?

That aside, it mentions a horrible failure of their communication system that is to be replaced next year. Perhaps too little, too late...?

    Regards,

    Doug
