American police cars in France

American cops show are very popular in France.
So much so that some people want to own and drive the cars they see on TV.

Of course in France it's not illegal to impersonate a US cop.The cars, lights, and sirens are street legal too since the French police uses different sirens and doesn't use red lights on emergency vehicles.

They also wear a full cop uniform while driving them.

They have French licence plates but some cover them with fake US plates when they park their car.

Maybe I could get myself a used IMPD cop car.

The French police use H&K G36 rifles, not the FAMAS.
Well some units of the Gendarmerie (military police) still use the FAMAS for riot-control.

Or the H&K UMP in 9mm.

That LAPD car used to be a real LAPD car, then it was sold as a used car, painted yellow and used as a taxi in Los Angeles.
The owner painted it back to black and white when he got it imported to France.
All the decals are custom work.

It's part of the new gear each patrol officer is now getting equipped with.
Before the 2015 Paris attacks only special units had rifles.

Now plain clothes officers and regular units are getting issued plate carriers, ballistic helmets and HK-G36 rifles to respond to active shooters before SWAT gets here.

You know there are actually more cops per capita in France than in the US.

You might not see them much in rural areas though since they often wear camo, including for traffic and speed enforcement.
