I'm really not a spelling or grammar Nazi.

Here are some excerpts from some ads I have read over the years.

First and foremost: I have blank blank blank for sell. We all know it should read sale, not sell.
I read this one a few years ago from Hoosier Topics (I know, maybe it's expected) from a site like that.

"Rifle cums with scope", really?? Maybe this guy reads way too much porn!
I just saw this in the WTB, looking for a rifle with a good boor.
Which is what prompted this thread, I know auto correct is responsible for some of this, but some of what I read doesn't make us look intelligent as a whole. Yes whole used correctly and not hole.

Thoughts? Other examples that I have missed? I'm sure I am not the only person that feels this way.

Don't forget about hiding important details, like location and price, inside a big paragraph.

We have bold text and colored text for a reason.

I always like a rifle with a good Boer. Trust in God and Mauser.

Go read "On Plymouth Plantation" by Gov. Bradford. Spelling and grammar were not important before the need to share engineering data became important. I read a lot of old books so don't find it a big deal; if it communicates the intention it's enough.

If you know what was meant by what was posted let it pass. :twocents: A good example is how personally people take the whole clip/magazine thing. Stand by while I go put a clip on a magazine...paper...

It's not just the classifieds- incorrect grammar permeates everything in print today. The newspapers are the worst as we expect some professionalism from them. I find these errors throughout the threads on this forum (and others). Auto fill and spell check can be your friend, but they are not always your friend. I was taught to PROOF READ anything that I wrote or typed. Apparently that is no longer taught in school. Computers and those stupid smart phones are partially to blame, if the keys were bigger maybe there would fewer mistakes, but it goes back to the basics of grammar and English.

Are you going to trust round counts, maintenance, etc. representations from someone who can’t outspell a 1st grader....and has access to spell check? In my experience, people are generally detail oriented or not. They don’t switch it off and on.

Not here, but I've seen ads for cars where they can't even spell the make or model of the car! "Camero" instead of Camaro...how hard is it to figure that one out, it's usually even somewhere ON the d*mn car!?

The thing that does it for me is not so much the occasional misspelling, but that guns with "shinny" bores seem to greatly outnumber those with "shiny" bores. I'm not sure if people are always using them to climb trees or playing hockey?

Don't see it in classifieds so much, but my two (un)favorite gun forum writing mishaps are "discrete" and "roll-playing." :)

Why are you knocking Cameros? They were the best chevy put out in the 70's.

LOL, I've owned a few. Got to drive one of the newer models as a loaner after an accident. It was nice, but I don't know... it's not the old school muscle car I remember...
