I support her right to speak her mind, but I hate it when people invoke the following.

She informed the team of her decision in a letter this week. ”I will not sing our national anthem at a place that seeks to strip me of my Second Amendment rights,” Wolcott wrote.

So, First Amendment good, Second Amendment bad?

I have yet a person removed from a sporting event for a distasteful or generally offensive sign rail on about their "First Amendment rights being stripped." But if has happened, they would be equally wrong in invoking the "rights" argument.

It's almost as bad as "our people" acting like the children theirs do. Just sing an approximation of the song as it was written*, then send people to your website for a surprise and crawl into their heads then. Let the game be the game.

*I understand it requires an unusual vocal range to get it quite right.

Good for her. At least she notified them instead of walking out there and just taking a knee or something.

When I saw the headline I feared that she walked up to the microphone and then would not sing. I like the approach she took, showed conviction yet done with class.

I wonder what the Reno facility manager does to insure the safety of his patrons when they are walking unarmed from his imposed Gun Free Zone to their car. If everyone with a GFZ employer would always ask for a security guard escort to their cars the guards would get overwhelmed and the management would need to start thinking about how safe their employees and guest are walking unarmed from their car to the facility.

I don't see it acting childish. In any agreement, both sides have to agree to the terms and conditions. She's decided a certain aspect of those terms and conditions are no longer tolerable and she simply advised them she would no longer be a part of the agreement because of it. An example of childish behavior would have been to walk out there as if she was going to sing as agreed but instead went on a rant, embarrassing herself and the team.

I'm ok with this. This is war we're in now. Playing nice, going along to get along, not rocking the boat, compromising and ignoring each little, incremental step has gotten us to where we are now.

I'm always happy. Life is too short. Slap my mama, shoot my dog, or eat the last piece of chicken... then we got problems.

Me and you would never have problems unless your dog was over on my property after my animals. You can have all the chicken you want.

Unless you can convince us that this chick was surprised that a sporting venue had a "no firearms" policy, it's virtue signaling.

Maybe. But if we're to believe the sea change in favorability of "assault rifles" among the population that the media (except for the NRA and Dana Loesch types) has told us about, virtue signalling seems to be working. If it's working for them, maybe we ought to try it.

I agree. Each time it's a message to the people who've always been middle-of-the-road'ers, not particularly gun people, but who also find the assault on freedom more and more distasteful. For many of those people, actually leaning to the right is uncharted territory, and I think they would find it affirming to see others in the same position and mind-set.

The thing is that this season the sporting venue changed its enforcement. Previously it was a GFZ because of signage, now it is a GFZ because of newly installed metal detectors. Certainly the venue was not naïve enough to believe the signage was really stopping people from concealed carry so it was kind of like the Pirate Code, really more of a guideline than an actual rule.

That actually makes this chick's argument even worse.

I understand and agree with her reasoning. This season, there is much more political pressure, and media coverage on gun control. It is something we didn't really have to worry about too much last year. This year we do have to worry about it because the movement is gaining ground.

I am also taking steps not to patronize any place where I cannot carry. If I cannot feel safe, or if they seek to strip me of my rights, they don't need my money. This is getting harder to do, and many times I end up going into a place with a no firearms sign anyway, but I am trying... Places with a metal detector, absolutely not unless I have to.
