Belgian air force mechanic opens fire by mistake, blows up another F-16

    Whoops.

The part about the trigger is still to be verified, but confirmed BAF is minus one F-16, plus one damaged.

ETA comment to article at link:

Jay MurrayI was an F-16 crew chief for 8 years and an instructor. What is described in the article can't happen without a safe guard malfunction or deliberate action. The F-16 has essentially weight on wheels safe guard provisions (sensors on the landing gear) for the weapons systems. So either they (the sensors) failed or were disabled, or this was on jack stands with the gear up, and even still you just don’t pull the trigger and the gun engages with no power. The cannon is a hydraulically powered Gatling gun, so not only do you have to electric hooked up to the plane, but also a hydraulic test stand for hydraulic pressure, or the plane would need to be running, and again, if the gear is down...gun won’t work. Period.

    This will be interesting.
