I'm listening to the scanner radio app here in Monroe County. Sounds like the county road crews are working today, brining the roadways.

I don't get it. No freezing temps in the forecast that I'm looking at until at least Wednesday. Also, a 100% chance of rain tomorrow. :n00b:

Wonder if this crew is paid overtime for working the weekend?

I WISH they'd work on potholes. My road is in need of repair.

These guys are spraying brine. Their radio commentary is about roads covered and returning to refill their tanks.

It seems to me that this isn't the first time this year that I've seen brine stripes on the roadways when rain is in the forecast and temps above freezing?

They may have a budget to burn before the end of the year. You know the old saying when it comes to tax payers dollars use it or loos it.

Yeah, we were out in Brown County today, and all the major roads are SOAKED in salt brine. Wife checked the forecast, and it calls for rain and temps near (but above) freezing at night.

Guessing someone needed to burn a year-end overtime and materials budget.

Remember the increase in the gas tax and registration fees a couple years ago? Highway departments apparently have money to burn now and they are going to do it.

The State Highway Dept was brining US50 in Jackson County yesterday afternoon. Temps this morning were 45 and it was raining.

I saw a truck spreading brine yesterday down in Martinsville and wondered what they were doing it for. Especially with rain and temps in the mid 50's in the forecast for today. :n00b:

I noticed them doing this down here in Lawrence county the other day too...and it wasn't the first time I thought I saw the tell-tale signs of brining when the temps weren't supposed to be <32.

State Road 45 was noticeably brined yesterday. I cannot say whether that is state crew work or county?

This needs to get to our congress critters and the news.

I'm not sure this isn't a state thing rather than county at second look. I've seen reports of this same brining of the roads unnecessarily in Brown and Lawrence Counties along with Monroe.
