Because if we pass a law, that’ll solve everything.

At a certain point, parents have to take a little responsibility.

My point was that you can put all the restrictions in the world on sex offenders, but ultimately, if you are going to let a registered sex offender babysit your kid, relying on the sex offender to say "I would, but the law says I can't"......

Seriously. Look at that dude and then read through the descriptions of the various tattoos he has. I wouldn't let this guy within a city block of my kid.

This is the underlying problem with so much of our legislation, the NEED TO DO SOMETHING!

Especially, when it is FOR THE CHILDREN!

It is natural to want to protect our children, but passing a new law every time someone identifies a "problem" or in response to unusual but horrific happenings is how we get laws with unintended circumstances.

Having the sex offender registry should be enough. Everything else is on people to CHECK IT.

The truth of the matter is that there are a lot of crap parents out there. We have plenty of anecdotal evidence that many parents wouldn't care if a person had "sex offender" tattooed across his forehead.

Unfortunately, too many people want government to do their thinking for them, to look out for them, to prevent anything bad from happening to them.
