Helped a neighbor troubleshoot his snow blower that won’t start. He left gas in it for 3 years.

I drained the carb bowl and it was a nasty blue green thick liquid that reeked of varnish. Pretty sure that carb is toast because we can’t get any new gas into the bowl.

Anyway, after repeated washing with dawn, orange goop w pumice, etc I still can’t get that varnish smell off my hands.

    Suggestions?

    Set them on fire?

But seriously, maybe try some lemon juice? Or bleach? Of course then you'll need to figure out how to get rid of the lemon juice or bleach smell. I hear gasoline works for that. ;)

Tooth paste used to kill the fish smell after cleaning them.

I mix Dawn apple blossom with Dawn bleach alternative as the rutine dish liquid to kill off fish drain smells also. Works in the fish coolers also.

I've found that rubbing just standard garden-variety dirt on your hands (loose soil, obviously) helps a good deal. You wash your hands normally after, but the dirt does a good job as a combo abrasive/absorbent.

I've used old fashioned yellow Listerine to kill odors on my hands for a variety of stinky jobs over the years.

I just discovered the downside of silicone wedding bands. That thing is at the curb in the trash. No amount of solvents, scrubbing, etc would get that stink out. Glad I have 4 more. :):

Cut an orange in half and scrub your hands with a half using cold water. Lemons work also.

Another way is to soak your hands with WD-40. Then wash it of with break clean, then dish soap.

With the varnished gas, fire might be the only hope.

Seriously light a candle and move your hands over the candle. The candle will burn the smell out of your hands. I've been doing that or using a butane lighter to do the same thing for years.

I’ve had good luck with Lava soap. Not the bar, the liquid gell stuff. But the dirt suggestion kinda wors too.

Find the busiest construction site and go into one of their porta potties. Now just dip your hands into the magic blue water. The longer the better.
I can guarantee you that your hands will not smell like gasoline anymore.

    Happy to help.
