Awesome piece of US history found.

A World War II aircraft carrier, best known for taking part in the Doolittle raid on Japan in April 1942, the USS Hornet, has been discovered off the coast of the Soloman Islands in the South Pacific. The wreck was found at a depth of nearly 17,500 feet. Hornet was sunk during the brutal battle of the Santa Cruz Islands that raged from Oct. 25 to Oct. 27, 1942.

I was impressed by how clean a lot of the equipment still looks, not barnacle encrusted like a lot of ship wrecks. Maybe that stuff doesn't live/grow that at that depth?

How long until some of the guns from the wreck make it to indiucky's shop and indy1919a4 buys them and has his neighbor get them back in working order? :):

I have long been amazed at what it took to sink this ship. The Hornet was hit by three bombs from Japanese dive bombers, then a dive bomber crashed into it, two torpedoes hit it, another plane crashed into it, then another torpedo. Due to approaching Japanese ships, she was ordered abandoned and scuttled. The US Navy then fired 9 more torpedoes into it, plus 400 rounds of 5 in shells. It still didn't sink! The Japanese finally sunk it with 4 more torpedoes.
