French police officer killed by colleague playing with gun inside police station

A 27-year-old policewoman was shot dead by a colleague in Paris when the pair were reportedly playing a game of drawing their guns on each other and one weapon went off by accident.

A police officer in Paris died after her colleague shot her in the head, in what police union leader Christophe Crepin called "a tragedy due to a mistake in handling a loaded firearm."
According to French newspaper Le Parisien, the victim and the suspect were playing with their guns Sunday when the incident occurred.

Le Parisien reports that the colleagues were "playing at drawing their weapon" when the officer was fatally shot, and that two other officers were present.
"There are regulations as to the handling of a firearm when the chamber is loaded and these were not followed," Crepin told CNN.

Probably why most UK cops are not armed with firearms.Can't trust those Europeans with guns, even "trained" cops!

Maybe the shooter was treating the gun as if they thought it was unloaded. How do you say “safe direction always” in French?

Two of the officers, she shooter and a witness, have been suspended.

The shooter has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
