Kind of a weird area. They also said there were searches to accompany it... but I'm not sure how I feel about those situations... as though people are responsible for what other people post. The crime is possession, right? Having images in your temporary internet files feels like a shady way to get someone.

Probably a different discussion in the tech thread on that topic. I would hope they had more on him than just that.

Anyone here could post very illegal content... then what? Everyone that opens the thread and sees it is a criminal? Sounds like the searches, in his case, showed intent.

Im sure these cops who deal with this know what they are doing and aren't going to make an arrest or a judge issue warrants without solid proof. I mean hey the guy deserves his day in court but once the evidence is layed out I'm sure it will be crystal clear whos telling the truth.

You're optimistic. I'm not sure I count on judges and a jury to understand how technology works. But maybe that's just me.

I deal with Environmental regulations, of which the vast majority are litigated administratively, but in the rare instances where I've been involved with a case that is prosecuted in a criminal court, I've almost always come away shaking my head.

And for such a serious charge that could almost be planted on you with ease... that's scary.

You get little to no recourse to defend yourself. The public just hears the charge and wants nothing to do with it/you.

I don't know everything about the Mrs. Curls guy. If he admitted to searching for it, that's probably enough to get him. But he also said it was on "chan boards".

I'll tell you right now, there are no "chan boards" where that content is allowed or legal. But there exist bad people out there that possess this stuff, and they are capable of posting it without you having any power over it.

If the act of just scrolling by a thread that someone has tainted with very illegal content is actionable... that's probably a legal area that needs attention.

If he had a habit of seeking it out in the rare cases it emerged... by all means, he's not a good guy, no matter what the people trying to regulate "pedophilia" as an "orientation" want to believe.

Did you see FB post though? It did not say he was no longer in ownership. And supposedly the current owners are not slamming him. Very odd

I have a hard time with this. On one hand, I have no sympathy for the guilty, but on the other have a difficult time with easily weaponized accusations. In this case, regardless of what turns out to be the truth, more damage has already been done than could be handed out by a court, all with no due process. I don't know what the realistic chances of accidentally turning up child pornography may be, but if he were an offender worth noticing, I would think that among his scads of saved images there would be more than a couple odd examples in temp folders.

My bottom line is that I want to see the guilty punished but want to be absolutely sure they are guilty first.
