So Starbucks fired a manager for asking a man to leave the store, then calling police when he refused. I'm pretty sure asking customers, or even non-customers, to leave violates Starbucks policy.

So I ask again, why are we still patronizing this company?
There is no good reason to patronize this company. They cannot decide what they stand for. Apparently everyone, including the homeless, are welcome at Starbucks, unless they're not.

I don't see any cops doing that. I've seen were plenty have just left establishments where they were not wanted and spread the word. Personally, I'd just leave and simply not go back. I think any business should be able to refuse service to anyone they choose, be it police or anyone else.

On the flip side, a good friend of mine's daughter is a waitress at a local restaurant and a group of patrons demanded she remove her thin blue line headband (this was during police week in May of this year). She refused and stated that she would gladly have someone else wait on them. They became angry and left the restaurant. I just assumed she would be fired when I heard about it, but her bosses al had her back.

    No? They wouldn't do that?

Well, maybe it's time they did. I know soldiers and marines who would do EXACTLY that in similar circumstances.

Yep, I was asked to either leave Anderson's Applebees about 20+ years ago or put my carry in my car because another patron was unhappy when it peeked out when I sat down at our table.
I left when the 4 Anderson officers gave me the same options or I'd be trespassed and dragged out. Kidding, APD was very professional.
Haven't been in an Applebees since.

I too think they made an error. The presence of eat in accommodations, combined with "will that be for here or to go" followed up with an agreed upon "for here" response would constitute a contractual obligation. Now if it were someplace like Little Ceasars with no place to sit and eat/drink that would be different. In the latter there is no expectation to stick around.

EDIT: to clarify, if the owner said "I'd rather you didnt stick around, I'll gladly give you your order to go." Then you no longer have a contract to stay and eat/drink and could decide you wanted to take your business elsewhere.

Correct, but this shouldnt extend to other patrons. You dont like that skinhead 2 tables over who is just sitting there peacefully reading Mein Kampf as he sips his latte? Then you can leave. He isnt bothering anyone by existing and isnt doing anything wrong. You may disagree with his views and/or reading material, but so long as its not porn that others can view, or he's not reading aloud at a high volume so all can hear he has the right to peacefully enjoy himself.

I just wish people would just STFU and stop being offended by everything. Its a mental condition that needs professional treatment.

yes because the lack of a traditional weapon makes them un-dangerous somehow.... don't troll if you have nothing constructive to add.
