... 40 miles inside Indiana and using blue lights.

This was a month ago but the ISP is just now releasing the video tape.

    https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2019/0...high-speed-chase-of-chicago-police-commander/

“Put your hands where I can see them! Right now,” a trooper can be heard saying on the tape. “Get out of the car. This is not an emergency vehicle.”
Wodnicki responds, “Oh please, come on guys. I’m a f****** policeman. I swear to God I thought you were giving me support.”
“A policeman where?” the trooper asks.
    “Chicago,” Wodnicki responds.
Is this Chicago?” the trooper replies.

    LOL

Apparently the troopers called his bosses in Chicago to verify his story — which didn't check out — but he got off with a speeding ticket. I have a feeling that wasn't the decision of the troopers on the scene...

For your reading pleasure... Second City Cop
    .
Pretty sad that a commander of police has to drive all the way to Indiana, depriving Prickwrinkle of her nickel-per-bullet tax, just to get some plinking ammo. We certainly hope he took ammo orders from everyone in the Division. After all, if you're going to travel that far for a few hundred rounds, might as well make it an even ten thousand or so.

Looks like our troopers threw the proverbial book at him, but it was the Lake County Prosecutor who declined to file all the charges.
I get it, prosecutor is gonna march to his own drum. But would I expect the opportunity to drive home in my own vehicle after being stopped for 114 mph? Troopers cited him for 80 - that's throwing the book at him?

I am pro-LE, but this is the type of "protect your own" $#!+ that sows the seeds of distrust. No one is above the law. The following articles are on the first two search pages for "Indiana state police arrest speeder". Don't feed me the "troops threw the book at him" crap.

Well, prosecutors are always worried about losing LEO support while trying to get convictions in court.
Also.. Lake County is a ChicagoWannabe.

Pfffft. You would get the opportunity to wear some shiny ISP bracelets on the way to the nearest county jail.

I hate it when I hear the line "if it were Joe Citizen you'd have hammered them". Don't tell me what I would or wouldn't do. The last handful of 100+MPH drivers I have caught got to go home with a shiny court summons AND their car. I can only speak for myself and some of my closest co-workers, but a person's attitude upon being caught usually dictates the outcome of the stop.

Professional courtesy absolutely exists, but so does compassion and understanding. I won't write another cop a ticket for a run of the mill traffic infraction... I also won't write a CDL holder, taxi driver, fireman, medic or pizza guy either. That said, go beyond a ho-hum traffic infraction and all bets are off, I don't care who you are. I'll put my money where my mouth is on that last statement every day of the week.... just ask this guy: https://www.theindychannel.com/news/local-news/brownsburg-fire-chief-arrested-on-owi-charge

I fully respect your comments & apologize if mine came across as accusing you of playing the game. My comments weren't intentionally directed at you, but at the actions of the troops in this specific instance. The troops in this instance did not throw the book at the commander. In all fairness to the troops, their orders may have come from higher up the food chain, but it still reeks of government protecting government.

I will have to agree in this. I have in my time received some really serious breaks from LEO. For things that could have cost me dearly as to traffic and a few other not so good decisions.

But in this the guy should have been held to a higher standard for rolling Indiana with his lights and 114 MPH. That is a serious breech.

I'm sure any other citizen would be given the same accommodations as the the commander. Government protects government.

I caught two college kids street racing on Binford Blvd one night probably a decade ago. I don't recall the exact speed, but it was 110+. Tickets only. Ditto the guy in the Porshe doing just over 100 at the 65/70 split. Etc.

I also didn't write the UPS driver who turned in front of me causing me to lock up the brakes last night. Or even go after the idiot on the dual sport lane splitting and weaving through traffic.

But, by all means, create your own narrative of what does or doesn't happen then get pissed about it. You actually have no idea what "any other citizen" would get, but they probably wouldn't get a news story.

Speaking as a "civilian", I have been extended a copious amount of grace over the years. Written up for a seatbelt while allegedly doing 73 in a 45 comes to mind....and several "let off with a warning" for various alleged infractions. Obviously, no professional courtesy involved, but not being an A-hole, being polite, being honest ("do you know why I pulled you over? "Probably because I rolled through that stop sign back there...") and looking like a respectable citizen helps.
