    Robins Air Force Base

Three guys in a car disregard sentries, accelerate through gate. SFs activate barrier, works as advertised, two killed on impact, one dies at hospital.

The three were from Guatemala, one on expired work visa, other two status unknown.

    Base commander had a statement:

“This is a tragedy which we all feel deeply at Robins Air Force Base. We will thoroughly investigate to determine the facts and circumstances and what can be learned from this tragedy", said Col. Katrina Stephens, vice commander, 78th Air Base Wing. "Our thoughts are with the families of those lost.”

Well, since apparently all of Colonel Stevens’ thoughts are occupied with the guys who tried to run the gate, I will limit my thoughts to the SFs who were on the ball: “Well Done!”

Working the gate at CONUS base has to be on of the most tedious, repetitious, and boring jobs the USAF has, And it’s good to know the SF’s were able to recognize and respond to an unknown threat in a moment.

Thanks for posting this Alamo, I saw this the other day. Absolutely the security forces type did the right thing and stopped that vehicle.

Bases were having those barriers installed not long before I retired. They will stop anything coming at it. I agree with you and drill sergeant on what the vice air base wing commander said, whiskey tango foxtrot over.

Tragedy? It sounds like only fatalities were the bad guys (intentional or not). Glad to hear the good guys are o.k. and some more illegals that just left the sneak in/deport carousel for the last time.

And yes, I'm an insensitive *******, my ex can verify that for you if there's any doubt!

What does this security barrier look like?

The ones I’ve seen at bases are steel posts that can pop out of the ground when the switch is activated.

I believe there’s also a steel wall that lays flat, flush with the pavement, but when you push the button it flips up via hydraulic cylinders.

    ETA: Here’s another type:

I believe this is what it looks like when it’s down:

A hungry dinobot? How does crashing into something kill two people instantly and one later? I feel like they shouldn't have been able to accelerate fast enough to cause that much damage.

From the article... looks like the driver may have slowed down on approach, and then accelerated. I would guess a lack of seat belts probably led to the fatalities.

At about 9:30 p.m. Friday a vehicle approached the Russell Parkway gate at the base and the driver failed to comply with a sentry’s order to stop, according to a base release.

When the vehicle accelerated through the gate, a security barrier was activated and the vehicle crashed into it.

Add to this expired work visa and possibly two companions who may be here illegally. Mix thoroughly, instant panic.

    Makes sense to me.

...and after having watched those videos- not hard at all to understand how they ended up dead.

I could imagine the outcry had the guards on the gate had to open fire with small arms fire. Since it's "only" a vehicle collision, can't be shoved into any convenient leftist narrative except for "HATIN' ON IMMIGRANTS."

So we are thinking there may be some space aliens there instead of all in Area 51 that they wanted to visit?

It would suck for extraterrestrials to make it to earth with all the perils of interstellar flight only to be taken out by an E-4 pressing a barrier button.
