My wife has been talked into looking at a granite supplier for remodeling our bathroom. The place is in the 5000 block of 23rd St. what kind of an area is this ? Safe for her and a girlfriend to go to by themselves ?

I'm assuming they're going to a business during the day. From the Google street view, it looks like a wide open industrial district.

I don't live in in Indy, but no where (in Indy) can be _that_ bad.

I'd rather my wife goes there, rather than some supplier located next to an outlet mall.

Time to get the wife enrolled in some training classes. Or wait until Saturday and go with her if you’re that concerned. I avoid Indy as much as possible, but during the day the trash is usually sleeping off their hijinks from the night before.

I have no issue going anywhere in the city during the day, and most places at night.

The only thing that mildly concerns me is people busting the windows in my car to steal nick nacks. That is really the only sort of random violence you could be involved in.

I will say that when you dig into nearly all of the shootings involve people who know each other and are involved in criminal enterprise. That is why those don't make the news, but when someone's home is invaded, you'll hear about that.

10 people have been killed this month, and the overwhelming response has been...meh.

This should give you a good idea of places to avoid at night.

Here's the Indy Crime map https://www.areavibes.com/indianapolis-in/crime/
There are worst places than this, and most of the crime in this area I would imagine happens at night. That said, it does appear to be just within an area with higher than average crime, but surrounded by areas with much lower crime.

Yeah he has a lot to learn about "Some places in Indy"...….:shady:

I have been about any and everywhere you can go in this city. Day and night. But I am a male. over 6' and 240 with a scowl and a side arm.

Wrong place wrong time can happen about anywhere these days.

I work 5 mins from there. I'd say its OK during the day without worry.

EDIT: mainly because zombies wont wander through there. Yes, thats a not so nice area. But Luther's is isolated enough that she shouldnt have to worry about randos hanging around/wandering past and seeing her as a target of opportunity. That industrial area is pretty isolated.

I'd send my wife there during daylight hours.

OK during the day. I love it...:):

A few years back our friends at Bobcat Steel were working the 1500. I ran an errand for them, as they were anchored in their booth. During the day, a short trip down the street to the CVS. Everything looked fine going down the street. Quite an eye opener in the store and parking lot for a country boy...:n00b:

I used to deliver beer in the area, daytime is OK, but once the sun starts going down, it's someplace even my experienced old beer delivering butt don't want to be.

When I was working as a Network Engineer for the City, there were only two places that we would need a police escort to go work on something. Everywhere else in the city it was fine during the day. There were sites we would wait till it was daytime out to service, but then again those sites were also closed at night anyway.

I've been to a few sketchy areas of town at night due to a router or switch going down at a 24/7 site.

I have worked in and around areas that the locals (lovingly) called me Oreo. Figure it out.
Not everyone is bad even in "Those" areas. But just enough are that one needs to be alert.

BW mentions running an errand down the 38th st. corridor. Yup that will open your eyes.
