I learned a new word today, but I don't think I'll be able to use it, almost ANYWHERE!
It's not considered a curse word.

The Miriam Webster definition of this word is someone who is stingy, not wanting to share or give anything away, a marked lack of generosity.
Phonetically, it sounds like a racial slur that is COMPLETELY unacceptable in todays society.

The term first arose in the middle ages, but I had never heard the word before today.
I am no linguist, but I do enjoy learning new words.
I just wish I could use them without fear of violent attack from someone who does not know the meaning of the word.

I don't think I dare print it here.
I enjoy posting on Ingo, and would like to continue.

If anyone is interested, I can reveal this mystery in a pm, but I will not post it on the open forum.

I think you've got it, but your link doesn't work. Not sure why. It looks good.
Had you heard the word before?

Yep, I've heard it before, but usually because it's controversial because it sounds like the "n" word. It's not really in common usage anymore.

And on one hand I think its silly to get ones panties in a bunch because it sounds like a bad word.

But considering it isnt in common use, and we have plenty of other words to use in its place, I have no trouble with it just NOT being used. Its not like we dont have other words like...

cheap, chintzy, close, closefisted, mean, mingy, miserly, parsimonious, penny-pinching, penurious, pinching, pinchpenny, spare, sparing, stingy, stinting, tight, tightfisted, uncharitable, ungenerous

So yeah, not using that word wont put anyone at a loss.
